GRADING DATES AND TIMES FOR 2012
ALL PLAYERS MUST ATTEND ON BOTH GRADING DATES AT THE APPROPRIATE TIMES. FAILURE TO ATTEND MAY MEAN THAT YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR A TOP TEAM. If you are unable to attend due to sickness or injury and wish to be considered for a top team, a doctor’s certificate will be required.
It is preferred that parents drop their children off. However, if this is not possible noise must be kept to a minimum in the stadium.
Please bring a drink bottle and a hand towel, as it gets very hot.
The purpose of grading is to find the most appropriate team for your child. During the grading process, it may not be necessary for all players to share equal court time.
Please note grading will take place at the Bellingara outside courts and the SSNA Stadium. In some age groups, the 2nd grading session may not be required or may be of shorter duration – please check the website (www.thistlesnetball.com.au) for any updates.

Understanding The Grading Process
All girls playing in the age groups 10 years to 16 years will be graded. This means that girls will be placed into teams rather than choosing their teams. The age that the player is turning in the calendar year is the age group in which she will play. For example, all girls who turn 10 in 2012 will play in the 10’s.
All registered players are to attend grading sessions so that the teams can be appropriately graded.
There are a number of factors that affect grading:
- Number of teams in each age group.
- Ability of the player.
- Playing positions.
- Players new to the club/players leaving the club.
- Number of teams in each age group.
Ideally, teams in this age group will have 7-9 players. The total number of girls registered in each age group will determine the number of teams in that age group. Changing numbers in any particular age group from one year to the next may result in movement of players between teams.
- Ability of the player
The players are assessed on their performance on the grading days, and also on the coaches/managers reports from the previous year. Please note that girls grow and develop netball skills at different times which can affect the team they are graded into from year to year.
- Playing positions
Where possible, teams are formed so that they have an equal spread of defence, attack and centre court players. This may result in some players moving into different teams to even out the teams’ skills.
- Players new to the club/players leaving the club
Each year there are always a number of new players to the club, and a number of players who choose to leave the club. New players will be accommodated into teams at their appropriate playing level, and this may result in movement of other players. Thistles Netball Club continues to encourage new players to the club.
If you have any concerns about the grading process, before or after the grading sessions, or any special requests, please submit a written request via the contact tab on the Thistles website and you will be contacted by the appropriate Thistles Executive member.
Many thanks for your understanding and co-operation during the grading process.
